Website Design Rochdale The Web for all and all for the Web

The creative process

How it works ?

Picture
You have decided you want a website and you need to find somebody to do it for you. The very best place to find someone is a recommendation from a friend or colleague who has already had one designed for them. The next best is looking on the internet and there are a lot of web design companies out there, some large, some small and a few one man bands (I am the latter).

If you are a very large company you are probably requiring a very large and complex website then go for a large web design company, you can probably afford to spend a lot of time and money finding the right company to do the job and they will offer you the world (at a cost !).

On the other hand if you are a medium to small business or a one man band like myself and don’t have vast amounts of time and money to waste then you should be looking for a good small web design company or a freelance designer.

How do you choose ?

Basically all web sites are the same.
What I mean by that is that underlying what you see when you look at any website are virtually the same structures and it is just the way the structures are interpreted that makes the website look and perform the way it does. Some look good but perform badly, some look awful but perform very well. By perform I mean that the website is very well placed in search engines and does everything it should do without one single mistake. What you should be looking for is a web designer that can create you a website that you really like and it should when you look at it grab you and it should say to you “yes that’s the one for me” and of course it should perform perfectly, exactly how you want it to.
A lot of web design companies and web designers have what are called stock sites where they just fill in a few details and photos about your company and with a small amount of tweaking then present you with a complete working website and will probably charge you an arm and a leg for very little work. The problem with stock sites is that you end up with loads of websites all looking the same.

How much should it cost ?

Picture
It all depends on what kind of website you want. A web shop site will cost considerably more than an informative site.
If somebody offers you a three to ten page website for £50 it will be rubbish unless you know them and they are doing you a big favour !
The thing to consider is that a good website from a reputable company or freelance designer may cost £5000 and the same website from another company may cost £1000 for the same design and specifications. That doesn’t mean that the £5000 website will be or look any better, it definitely does pay to shop around and get a few quotes.
Beware of hidden costs. To register a domain name for one year will cost no more than £12 including VAT and it takes less than five minutes to register and pay for a domain name, if you are charged any more you are being ripped off. Remember you are paying for a service and don’t be bullied with technical jargon if you don’t understand anything ask them to explain in detail, also a good web designer will go through every part of the design and creation process with you and explain what can and can’t be done and should tell you the reason why he has designed the website the way he has.
